Once you have implemented your digital care pathway (i.e. patients are being included), you'll most likely want to have access to the data that is being collected.

The Awell Health software offers 2 options to download your data:

  1. A "manual" data export in the Clinical App

  2. A "live" connection to an SQL database that contains the pathway data

The manual data export

You can immediately download all data through the "Export data" functionality in the Clinical App.

Where to find it

You can find the data export functionality in the "Pathways" overview in the Clinical App. There you will find an "Export data" button next to each pathway.

Once you click on this button, you can select the time window of your export and click "Submit & export". The dates of the time window refer to when form/questionnaire were submitted.

When the data export has finished loading, a "Download export" button will appear. Please be aware that this loading could take a few minutes.

The structure of the export

Our data export contains 2 types of documents:

  1. Supporting files: these contain information about the structure of the forms in the care pathway

  2. The form responses: these contain the responses of patients and caregivers

Supporting files

  • The form dictionary: this file provides an overview of all forms and questions included in the care pathway (file ends on "form_dicts")

  • The form responses dictionary: this file provides an overview of all response options to the multiple choice questions included in the care pathway (file ends on "form_responses_dicts")

Response files

  • The results of the calculations (file ends on "calculation_results")

  • The patients included in the pathway (file ends on "patients")

  • The actual responses (all other files)

We have included 2 different formats (which contain the same data) of the actual responses to correspond to the different needs of our users:

  1. The "horizontal" format (each question in a different column): you can find 1 file for each form (files end with the form ID) - every row represents 1 submitted questionnaire

  2. The "vertical" format (all answers in one column): you can find 1 file that contains all responses to all forms (file ends on standardized) - every row represents an answer to 1 question in a form

The "live" connection to an SQL database

We can provide users, who prefer to work with a live connection to an SQL database that contains all data of the care pathways in their organisation, access to a Google BigQuery database. Google BigQuery has a great API that allows to extract the data as a dataframe.
